The Mystery of the Feathers

livingdebI woke up this morning and found some feathers in the sink and on the faucet. They were brown, about 1.5 mm wide, and up to a couple of inches long.
In the living room I found larger bits of feather. The things I had seen before were actually just parts of feathers; a whole feather was made up of several of these on each side of a central shaft.
So how did these feather bits get here?
Robin was asleep, having stayed up late. When he woke up I asked him if he had had a fight with a bird or something. He explained that he had been trying to dust with a feather duster, but stopped when he realized he was making more "dust" than he was cleaning up. His duster is just falling apart.
