Robin and I went to the Domain again yesterday. A lot more things are open just after noon on Saturdays. And this time I had a camera.

Here's an example of how it looks like a clean, beautiful Main Street:

Here's a little something I found in the sidewalk:

Here's that fireplace going in the summer I told you about with elephant ears (non-native), palmettos (the pointy ones), turk's cap (the red flowers), and inland sea oats (grass in the foreground):

Here's a nice scene with sculpture, blackfoot daisies in all three colors, and stores:

We stopped in the Tommy Bahama store. A salesperson insisted on telling me about the sales (which information I had already read myself) and tried to give me more information and then finally just started talking to me like he was a regular (totally un-shy) human being. He said there was a little grocery store around the corner with a nice deli where they have sandwiches for $6. I told him about Jasper's backyard where everything is $10, actually $9-15 and you have to be careful when you order tea. The house tea comes with free refills; the other teas you pay for by the bottle.

He said it's nice that there are signs now telling you how to get to the Domain. It's not right off Braker. I said that actually we got off at the exit north of that one and was shocked that they let people cut across three lanes of traffic in the short space you have before turning into the Domain. In all other parts of town, they put up those little spikes until it's too late to turn.

I told him that more things are open on Saturday than Sunday. He agreed that the Sunday hours were very short. Actually, he was surprised at both how late they open and how early they close on the weekend. I said it must be nice to be able to sleep in.

He finished off by explaining how the double-stitching on the t-shirt collars is actually well worth the extra cost because if you try to put on the shirt after you've done your hair and make up, then the neck opening actually stays open by itself pretty well. He obviously felt guilty about not at least pretending to do his job: I clearly don't do my hair or wear make-up. (Well, I do brush my hair, but I just had it in a barrette and ponytail. Not a problem to re-do.)

So Robin and I actually checked out the little grocery store, and it's very high end, but in a very green sort of way. It reminded me of Wheatsville Coop or Sun Harvest, but was bigger and shinier. Everything looks quite delicious, and it's priced more like a grocery store than like a corner store.

The traffic is going to be a real nightmare once they start actually getting customers. The streets are designed for back up. For example, in the rest of the world, if you come upon an intersection, you can usually turn right, go straight, or turn left. Not here. Here they like to build median strips across the entire intersection. It's easier just to bring a vehicle that can go over curbs. You can easily find yourself back at the freeway going the opposite of the direction you were trying to go.

Parking is remote. They have weird little pull-out lanes as if one day there may be shuttle buses.

I think there may be a brief period after the weather cools and before the first holiday shopping season starts up where it will be a nice place to park and take a little hike. And that is my warning to you.
