Review: The Lorax
Sep. 11th, 2014 08:51 pmI checked out a local library today (The Americana, ahem Yarborough branch). I got a fabulous bookmark with robots on it celebrating banned books week. And I read one of the banned books on display which I had never read before: The Lorax.
It was quite a children's story. It felt like very effective propaganda (though I'm not sure who'd want to ban it). I could see it being used in some staff orientation meeting and then the employees keep knowingly using silly Seuss words to refer to certain kinds of unacceptable ideas.
It also reminded me of when people ask friends for a loan because they can't afford their house payment because their new job doesn't pay enough. They will never be able to afford the house payment. Putting off the inevitable doesn't change it; it just adds loans to their friends to the equation. They need a new strategy; the sooner the better.
I wish we could be better at seeing the times when we're going to have to change anyway, so we may as well do it before we dig ourselves any deeper.
