I've been noticing I like to do my activities in increments, but mine are much shorter than the guy from "About a Boy." For example, here's a set of activities from this afternoon:

Jog to bank (5 minutes).

Withdraw money.

Jog to Target (2.5 minutes).

Buy stuff.

Walk home quickly (13 minutes).

Take big drink of water.

Unpack purchases.
* cut tag off new bathroom rug, put rug in bathroom and tag in office
* put new dental floss in bathroom
* eat a couple of bites of chocolate; put away the rest of the chocolate, granola, and vitamins
* rinse strawberries, rinse them again in vinegar solution (so they'll last longer), cut off the stems, eat the three bruised ones, wrap the rest in towel to dry

Measure chocolate coating ingredients and put in pan, add chocolate chips to grocery list.

Record purchases in checkbook register and computer spreadsheet.

Start the milk and chocolate melting.

Start taking laundry out of washer, shaking the wrinkles out of each garment, folding it, and putting it into the laundry basket, stirring the chocolate between each garment after the first two.

Dip strawberries in chocolate and lay them out on metal sheet.

Finish shaking out laundry, move basket to bed.

Use bathroom and wash hands.

Move sheet with strawberries from (warm) stovetop to (cool) washer.

Call stockbroker to send me a check for my cash (so I can move it to an interesting-bearing account, such as it is).

Hang laundry in bedroom, turn on ceiling fan.

Add new bathroom rug to inventory list.

Start working on job application #2: realize it says I need two years of research experience. I have 9 months of research experience (in addition to the required master's degree). Decide to try to think of something else that can be interpreted as research experience. Give up for now.

Write this.

I have multiple tiny goals and am pleased that I did two annoying things (go to my bank and call my broker), that I did everything necessary to make sure that all those strawberries will get eaten, and that I got 20 minutes of aerobic-ish activity in, and in plenty of time to rest up before going to the gym. (I'm also pleased that my feet don't hurt, unlike after my 7-minute jog in my new shoes.)

But that 20 minute goal, well, I know it's a joke, but I have to start where I am and where I am is wanting to sit around all day reading and surfing the web. But one of my favorite bloggers just completed her first 15-hour challenge, a goal of 15 straight hours of activity, and we're not talking about vacuuming or pacing while on the phone. She is awesome. (Not just because she is so buff, either--she is also smart and fun.)
