Merely Hot, Where I Am
Sep. 6th, 2011 10:06 pmIt seems wrong going on about how wonderfully cool it is when my state is on fire. But I hereby declare yesterday the beginning of fall.
That is the day when suddenly the prediction was for a high of 95 degrees. You've seen this before--the forecasters pick a day far out in the future and claim it will be better, but as the day approaches, the forecast changes until by the time the day arrives, it's just like every other day.
But no. The forecast then claimed it would be only 93. Then only 90.
I don't know what the actual high temperature was, but the day felt different, and so did today.
It doesn't hurt to go outside.
It's merely hot.
When a breeze came tearing by,
It felt cooler.
I could wait for lights and buses
With no shade.
Bus exhaust could hit me,
And I'd live.
I was worried this morning when my news source claimed it was 55 degrees outside. What? Only one warm day? From boiling hot to too-chilly-for-shorts in only one day? But no. Today was just what summer should be like. Merely hot. (And even that only in the afternoon.)
(Except near all those fires.)
