I went to Alamo Drafthouse Village yesterday and tried their new Fish 'n Chips. Yum! The fish is batter dipped, which is my favorite. And the fish is nice and thick all the way to the edges. Lately, lots of fish is thin on the fish and thick on the batter, probably because we're destroying the oceans and overfishing them so we just don't have big fish anymore, but somehow last night Alamo had good fish. The fries are also good, being their usual fries. I'm not sure how annoying the crunchiness is to those who don't like a background crunching with their movies.

We watched "Super 8," a kids movie about five kids who are friends with each other plus a new one they add to their group.

When you were a kid, was your group big or small? Wherever I lived, my gang was generally just me and my best friend. Anyway, these kids like to make movies for fun (much better when you have a bigger group of friends), plus their summer is a little more exciting than usual. In fact, it gets very exciting.

The movie makers also had some fun with 1979 nostalgia. Like how on gas pumps, the gallon gauge goes faster than the dollar gauge. There was a joke about how people become oblivious to their surroundings while wearing Sony Walkmans. I got the feeling that there were a lot of good jokes for people who were actually around in 1979, though, even though I was around, that doesn't mean I wasn't clueless.

I always wanted to make a movie like these kids do, the kind where maybe it's not very slick (at all), but still much fun, and you do laugh at some parts that aren't supposed to be funny, like how when the rich, powerful executive sits in his expensive leather desk chair, it squeaks. But I'm not good with plots, can't act, and don't like to ask people to help, so it might not happen. It still might, though.

One piece of advice: don't leave when the credits start rolling until you see how their movie turns out.
