Long time, no writing.

I've been spending most of my free time playing the Facebook game Backyard Monsters. First it was all about strategizing how to maximize my resources, then weapons, as quickly as possible. My brain is good at this, and years of clerical experience doesn't hurt.

The next phase in the game is attacking people. I didn't want to be the first person to attack anyone, so I was hoping to just go for the revenge attack after strangers attacked me. However, in the nick of time, they made up fake people to attack, and I have done so repeatedly in order to get more resources.

That's fortunate because so far, only two real people have attacked me. One was already completely demolished and thus did not need me to teach him a lesson. The other was barely able to touch me and turned out to be at level 15 when I was at level 30, so I didn't have the heart to respond except verbally. Sadly, people do not seem to be into humorous (or any kind of) trash talking in this game.

Another new feature is the "trick-or-treat" pumpkins that will appear daily for the rest of the month. Your chances are 50/50 on getting attacked versus getting one of your resources maxed. So far, I've suffered two spear attacks, but my mathematical skills are letting me activate that pumpkin daily because the attack damage is minor, and the resource maxing is major.

Two of my friends play, and it's been fun talking about our discoveries with each other, plus there are ways programmed into the game for you to help your friends with certain actions.

However, once all my resources and weapons are maxed out, I think I won't find the game to be fun anymore. We'll see.

I still have four years and three months before I can retire. Lately I've had some days with more work at the end of the day than at the beginning and even one day where I dragged Robin out to eat as part of a rather long workday-recovery period, but I'm still cheery again at the beginning of each day. And over the past couple of weeks I've also been able to catch up in several important areas.

Quote of the day - "There are two ways to fry a liquid:

Fried Coke: Mix up dough with Coke syrup, roll into balls, and deep fry them making balls that taste like Coke. Fill a Coke glass with them, and add whipped cream, nuts and a cherry, making a clever look and a nice-tasting treat. (That was several years ago, and I loved it.)

2. Fried beer: make little raviolis of dough with beer in them. Cook them to make the beer flat, warm and unappetizing. (Incidentally, the dough doesn't cook well.) Serve on a cardboard tray covered with melted cheese, because everybody likes cheese with their flat warm beer.

This makes an unusual food that tastes like the smell of a college rug the morning after the frat party.

Now I realize that you don't go to the State Fair for haute cuisine. Part of the fun is wallowing in the morass of unreasonable fried foods and bizarre ideas. Taking a step back and judging it by the fun-loving, fry-up-anything standards of the State Fair, ...

Fried Beer sucks." - Robin of Gilwell

YouTube of the Day - Toccata and Fugue in D minor BWV 565 by Johann Sebastian Bach played on glass harp (aka glass harpsichord aka wine glass rims) by Robert Tiso. So pretty. And amazing to watch.
