Apr. 11th, 2010 11:30 pmI finished clearing a shelf of books to make room for tools.
What? That's not exciting?
It involved looking up my books on Amazon so I could quickly get rid of books with bad-sounding reviews.
Then I read the very nice blog entry Spend Based on Who You Are, Not Who You Want To Be. That inspired me to make a list of hobbies present (who I am), future (who I want to be), and past (who I might not be anymore).
Then I got rid of a bunch more books based on past hobbies and past hopes of future hobbies (and careers). Not to mention some more textbooks.
Then I double-stacked some books on the other two shelves and voila! Empty shelf!
Quote of the day - "The decision to close the Cactus Cafe was a bad decision made in haste by the executive director of University Unions, [name], without appropriate input from the University community (students, faculty or staff). It is now clear that this closure is not about money (supporters of the cafe have agreed to close any deficit, and the revenues of the Cactus have now rebounded in any case). It is not about student wishes, as the student resolution makes clear, with or without [the student body president]'s signature. It is certainly not about faculty wishes, as UT faculty cherish the last element of the Texas Union that has any connection to the University's academic mission. It is obviously not about community wishes, as the decision has infuriated the Austin music community and music lovers everywhere." - David Hillis, Professor of biology, Pride is driving factor in Cactus decision, April 7th Daily Texan editorial
Depressing, but well said. Still, he told me that if everyone keeps the pressure on, he thinks we can make progress on this. (I see very little pressure on the Informal Classes issue that I care about even more.)
