Book Pruning Experiement
Jan. 30th, 2009 03:11 pmI have quite a number of inherited books. Most of them are thrillers and/or have Native American characters or are cookbooks and there are a few history books and classics. I kept all the ones that sounded like they might be good based on what was on the back of the cover. But as I've been going through them, I'm finding them mostly mediocre.
So I decided to look each one up on Amazon to see how they are rated. Anything that sounds bad or mediocre in the reviews, I put in the discard pile. For the ones that still sound like they might be good and the ones with no reviews, I actually read the first few pages. If it still sounds like it might be good, I keep it.
I am now having a much better success rate. Who knew I could get sucked into to Jane Eyre? I've only read about 50 pages, but it's engaging so far.
