Ill-timed Illness
Dec. 10th, 2007 05:55 pmNormally, I don't mind having a cold, but this time I do.
Last Monday I made an appointment with a colleague who has cancer. She wants to do lunch afterwards, but she's not allowed to go to restaurants because there are too many germs. She's on some kind of drugs that reduce her resistance. So, we're having pizza delivered.
The day after I made the appointment I woke up with a slight sore throat. I took vitamin C, washed my hands a lot, and drank plenty of fluids but didn't quite get enough rest. The sore throat was gone two days later.
Then yesterday I got full-blown symptoms. My appointment is this Friday. Stupid body. I would have rather had the cold last week.
Also, the Tufte conference was today, and all the holiday parties are happening this week.
I'll have to give my colleague the opportunity to put off this meeting until the following week. Grr. And if she doesn't, I'll wash my hands, brush my teeth, use mouthwash, and wear a bandana over my face like a bad guy in a western. Except while I'm eating. I absolutely, positively do not want to become responsible for anything bad happening to her.
**
In other news, today I got the opportunity to reject an invitation to refinance my current mortgage into a 40-year mortgage. Low payments! Extra cash to pay off my debt and fix up my house! And best of all, I could have it paid off in time for my 85th birthday. Woo hoo!
Thanks, but I already have "one of the lowest monthly mortgage payments available," and it's going down to zero in only 5.33 years, max.
