Today at the last second I didn't want to go to ultimate. If it had been as cool as it had looked, I would have gone anyway, but it wasn't, and it was very humid.
I decided I would much rather go for a jog/walk. I determined to jog 20 minutes, if not all at once, then in pieces, and that I would be out jogging or walking for an hour. And I decided to check out the new hiking trail at the old airport, apparently called the Southwest Greenbelt, which is being landscaped by the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center.

It's easy to get there safely as a pedestrian from my neighborhood. I started off jogging very, very slowly, but then was able to get up to a reasonable speed. I did the whole 20 minutes mostly all at once although I did stop for a traffic light and I stopped a couple of times to take pictures.
The trail is currently about a half mile long and there is only one entry to the adjacent neighborhood--so sad for them. I can't believe the Wildflower Center has been able to completely fill the area between the neighborhood and the trail with blooming wildflowers already, but they have.
And all those wildflowers have attracted a lot of butterflies. Mostly I saw small yellow-green ones that flitted all about but would not sit still to be photographed. I also saw a few monarch butterflies and two of this variety, one of whom was very cooperative in being photographed.

I was also happy to see two water fountains on the trail. They are the cool kind where everybody and their dog can get a drink.

When they work. I assume there are plans to pipe water to it in the future.
Unfortunately the trail was not properly designed to handle rain. Several areas already show signs of erosion, and after an overnight rain, several areas became muddy.

Then I came back through the shopping center. I was amused to hear the f-word soaring out of this store at high volume as I passed by:

The store is still under construction and they had some rap music playing very loudly.
I'm thinking of blowing off ultimate frisbee until September. It's too late to be cool but too early for me to be happily ready to go in time. (There really is no satisfying me on this point!)
