Today a bunch of us dressed alike at work. Everyone in my office received a free burnt orange waffle-weave polo-type shirt with Office of the Registrar embroidered on the front of it in white with a tiny star in regular orange. Hey, at least they didn't also add something in puke green (sorry, retro green) as well. On the right sleeve the head of a longhorn steer is embroidered in white. Una cabeza de vaca en blanca. (It's odd the things I can almost say in Spanish. Did you know that "cabeza de vaca" is Spanish for cow head?)

I ordered the smallest male size they had. (The male shirts have cool brown and tan buttons, but the female ones have burnt orange buttons.) I rinsed it in hot water. Several times. Until the rinse water came out as a pale peach rather than an orange color. Then washed it in a load of reds and browns. It's not as huge on me as it could be.

I will never ever wear this except for work occasions, but I still need to find room for it in my dresser.

It has occurred to me to cut it down and add ruffles or shearing or something and perhaps give the cow head an earring, but I have resisted. Sometimes laziness is the best route to professionalism.

Energy saving action of the day - While there was still daylight, I decided to do dishes while I could still do them without turning on the light and to hold off on bill-paying until afterwards, which I would do in the living room with the perpetual lamp. I didn't save much energy, but I did refrain from using energy I didn't need just by ordering my activities properly.

Sometimes the victories I celebrate are rather small, but hey, a victory is a victory.

(No, you are not allowed to bring up the energy wastage of having a perpetual light. Yes, it's a waste, but it makes it harder to tell when we're home, and this giant nightlight is really rather dim for a floor lamp, plus we are using a fluorescent bulb in it, so it's not really that crazy.)

Highly biased activity recommendation of the week - see "Constellation," a site-specific aerial dance performance by Blue Lapis Light, this Sunday at 9 p.m. You get to see chikuru and raaga123 dancing in three dimensions up in the sky while sitting next to R. and me, who will be dancing in one dimension (otherwise known as sitting).
