ABC - Asking, Beans, and Comics
Oct. 4th, 2006 07:57 pmAt work I decided to start reporting small problems to our IT guys again plus tiny problems that are really just annoyances that I have with the design. I know there's no time to take care of anything because they're busy with the social security number remediation, but I am tired of just assuming that there is no time for me. I'm just going to put out the issues as I come across them. Then they will be documented. And if the programmers have to ignore everything, I'm going to let it be their decision, not mine.
Now that I'm writing that, I'm reminded of when I was a kid. I knew we had financial troubles, so I never asked for anything (that cost money). Later I realized that actually there are some things I should have asked for. For example, those big bouncy balls only cost a dollar. My parents could definitely have afforded that and would have happily gotten me one if they had known I had wanted one. I could have learned to pay attention to which things were cheap and which were expensive and just asked about the cheap things. Instead I assumed that, whatever the price, everything was too expensive.
The things I reported at work are probably mostly easy fixes. My main IT guy is out for a while, but we'll see what happens.

I tried making bean soup out of half refried beans, half water. And for a half a can of beans I added a half teaspoon of cumin. Then I put some sour cream and cheese on top. It needs more spices, and the sour cream just makes it taste watered down. The cheese definitely helped, though. Overall, pretty good.

I don't recommend the Serenity comic book (or graphic novel or whatever). Yes, there is some mighty fine art. Some of it's just show-off art though that doesn't advance the story. Portraits, really. And yes, there is good comic book action. However, there were only a couple of good lines and there was no new information. No new insights into the characters. Once again it wasted a lot of time trying to re-explaining what was in the show in case a newbie picked up the comic. Too much packed into the last few pages with almost no explanation at all. Not enough time with the fun.
