Today I went to see "The Women," a play a friend was acting in. This is apparently a Broadway hit which was then (1939) made into a movie.

The play made me cry, because life is sad sometimes. My favorite character was the mother, who gave excellent advice, and who was played very well. My second favorite character was a servant, who was also played well and with a fun accent. The play has no male roles, which was definitely artificial at times, such as when the servant had to explain a pivotal scene (because it involved a man). But I loved her description, so it worked out. There was lots of sparkling dialog and sparkly jewelry.

This is turning into a weird review (as usual); I liked it and have added the movie version to my Netflix list, though my friend has warned us that the movie is quite different from the play. Censors! But then, it also has lots of famous actresses in it, so that might help make up for it. It's fun to see different versions of the same story, especially when the writing is fun. But I don't like the world that's created, and I don't want it to be as realistic as it probably is.

I present to you another cool, small apartment, Shauna's More Dash Than Cash. The thing I like about this place is that there are several different areas, each with their own character. I've always heard you should group items in collections together because they make a larger impact, and Shauna is good at grouping things together that go together so that she can have several different styles in one small place.

For example, the living room area feels large and serene with a white couch, light green chairs, multi-colored green pillows, a white wall with a thick pale green horizontal stripe and a large round white rug. It feels very comfortable and like a nice place to relax.

In one corner of her kitchen, she's got a wall painted in pale aqua. Against the wall is a distinctive piece of furniture made of dark wood, with drawers and, behind glass doors, shelves. On the shelves are aqua ceramic dishes and tall, thin clear glasses with different pictures on each one, each done in black, white, and aqua. On top is a tray crammed full of alcohol-related items (liquor, shot glasses, etc.), but the tray doesn't take up the whole table, so it still looks organized. On the wall are four framed record album covers. So, it's like a little corner of tropical party land.

Her dining room looks like an Asian tea party. And her bedroom looks all Hollywood ritzy. Most of these tiny apartments just pick one style and stick with it throughout the apartment to give the place unity and make it feel larger, and that's probably a good idea. But if you have a lot of likes, this is a good way to go, too. And this apartment even got lots of positive votes, so it's not just me who thinks you can do this.

In other news, I remembered to eat a spoonful of peanut butter after my gardening yesterday, and it totally worked. Everyone knows that you're supposed to stretch to prevent aches the next day, but Body Flow is full of stretching, especially at the end of the class, so I am also eating peanut butter. When I first woke up this morning, I felt a little something bad in the backs of my legs, but it hasn't bothered me since. At all!

It may just be a placebo effect for me, and if so, that would be fine with me except for the part that I may not be giving out very helpful advice. I love the placebo effect and always admired my sister when she was little and could "throw hives in the garbage" (hives are large, pink, itchy swellings) and they really would go away. And Mom could paint a "magic circle" on her arm, and then she would giggle when she got a shot there. I have never noticed myself being so lucky, but I am a big fan.

In case it actually is good advice, though, I think it was protein plus carbs (I know it was protein plus something), and my peanut butter has honey (it's not the kind that's made of just peanuts). So if you just did something that might hurt the next day, and you have some protein + carb food hanging around (milk? a bite of protein bar?), you might want to have some (as soon as possible after the exercise).
