Danger Party Fun
Mar. 19th, 2006 09:14 amThe danger party was fun last night. None of my preparations enhanced the party much, but I had fun doing them.
I got to brown the top of a creme brulee with a blowtorch. This took longer than I expected. First the sugar sprinkled on top melts, then it bubbles, then it turns orange or brown, then you should stop. Even the lighter-colored parts get crispy.
Our host told us that he had already learned the hard way not to sprinkle too much sugar on top. Because then you get a thick crunchy disk, and when you try to slice into it with your spoon, the disk just gets pushed down in the ramekin and the custard squirts out around the edges.
I also got to play with an 8-month-old baby. These are normally bored by me, but I had on a very colorful bead necklace, good for grabbing. I also had a pin, not so good for grabbing, which I had to take off and put in a back pocket.
I got to see a home movie of parts of someone's SCUBA diving trips. The parts with sharks. And the part with jellyfish. Actually, the jellyfish were a non-stinging variety, so it was less DANGERous than it looked.
Home movies can get amazingly good these days with computers. This guy made it so you could select scenes at the beginning, and he had great music playing.
Then I also saw two professionally made films: one of some other people diving and one of someone flying in a fast plane. I found out that lots of companies that provide cool activities also provide videos of these activities for a fee. These movies aren't as good as the other guy's home movies, but they do give you a good idea of what was going on, which was great fun. So, I got to see flips underwater and cartwheels in a plane.
