Jan. 6th, 2006 08:45 pmToday I started working in my new cube. I have much less shelf space, 33% more file cabinet space, and lots more counterspace. Also infinitely more windows. So I have to re-think how I'm storing things.
I've done a lot of purging last month, which makes it all possible. I also decided to find my prettiest volumes I have in the shelf modules and display them on the counter so that I can stuff piles of papers into the shelf modules and close the lid on them.
Unfortunately, I have only two pretty booklike things. One is a dictionary. One is my notebook where I store my job manual. It's mostly pretty because it has one of those windows on the spine where you can slide in a card with the title, and I made a card by cutting out a picture from an old work calendar and writing the title on that. The pictures in the calendars are sepia-and-cream pictures of architecture around campus.
So then I took three giant notebooks I have and did the same. Now they are beautiful, too, especially if you are only three feet tall. Notebooks don't look that great from the top. Oh, I suppose I could rest them on their sides.
I also learned that sweaters are easily stored in a file cabinet drawer, behind the file folders. I learned that two of my four cube walls also double as bulletin boards. I think everything is going to be okay.
I did decide to get rid of the postcards I was sticking to my long countertop-free cube wall, but keep the ones hanging from the bottoms of the shelf modules.
I really need to start carrying my camera around with me, start remembering to take pictures of things, learn to download the pictures into my computer, choose one of those photo display services like flickr, learn how to upload my pictures into that, and learn how to link to those pictures in LiveJournal entries. Today you could have seen my beautiful notebook title cards and also a beautiful fountain surrounded by trees with a brilliant blue-sky backdrop.
Organizing journal entry of the day: See A Very Fine Mess from Kiss My Grits for some better-than-average organizing tips. "If the socks can’t be sorted until the new sock drawer is acquired, but it’s after midnight and you’re not going to Target tonight, by God, then put the socks in a bag and put that bag where the sock drawer will go."
Other journal entry of the day: Darn Lucky's I'm 35 Today - If you like scrapbooking or you've never understood scrapbooking, I recommend this scrapbook-like entry about Darn Lucky at age 35. "Going Grey . . . Lips Kissed Daily!"
