I just found out why the job I applied for closed so quickly. It's because they hired my old boss. The one I knew they couldn't get because she had her dream job. But unfortunately for her, the dream became a nightmare. Her boss became "something else ... I haven’t figured out what yet!"

So no new job for me. Which is sort of a relief. And it will be really great to be seeing my old boss around again.

So now the one time I finally have gossip to tell my boss, I don't really want to. Because then he might not work so hard to get my position reclassified. Even if it's just subconscious. I think this is one of those situations where many people would even think little white lies are appropriate. I really don't like lying. Especially not to my boss who is often going out of his way to tell me stuff that I'm not officially supposed to know so that I can stay informed.

I'm wondering if I should do the icky Clinton thing where I admit nothing and when direct questions are asked, I tell misleading truths. Question: "Have you heard anything about the position yet?" Answer: "Not from them." Or "I haven't been called for an interview." But what if he just tells me as soon as he hears the news. "Oh, I know [and never bothered to tell you]." Or do I act like it's news to me? (Lying.) Or, I guess the Clinton thing, "Oh, that's so cool; it will be great to work with her again."
