Let the Games Begin
Aug. 22nd, 2005 02:06 pmI have talked with the person now doing the job I was thinking of applying for. It sounds like a perfectly fine job. One of the more fun-sounding duties is more minor than I expected, a less-fun sounding duty is more major than I hoped, and there was an extra not-fun sounding duty, but no deal-breakers.
One interesting comparison is that I'd probably rather do the job of that person's supervisor than of my own supervisor. Sometimes that comes up.
I have now half applied for the job. I've done the part where they say "to apply for the job, do the following and click here." But then they say "the department now has your resume; to apply for the job, do these additional things within five working days." I still have to do that part. I have a rough draft of those things and will probably send them off tomorrow.
This is another one of those places that wants a salary history. So creepy. This time my salary history makes me look a little too cheap for my tastes, but I could take care of that at negotiation time by saying that I really like my current job and would need a large raise to leave it, if I'm feeling anything like that at the time. I did list my approved raise in addition to my starting and ending salaries. However, I did not mention the current ploy to reclassify my job title. Again, if anything comes of that, it can be brought up during negotiations.
