Today I finished up the difficult project I was working on at work. Well, I can still do some testing, but that should be painless.

And Robin finished putting up our new pot rack so our pots are dangling.

Other good thinks I've accomplished lately: I sold some stock to get the money I need to "buy" a year of service (for early retirement). I scheduled an appointment with a dentist, after way too long. I've become very comfortable with XHTML and am about to become very comfortable with CSS. (Javascript will take some serious time.)

I'm trying to decide whether to go to JournalCon this year, even though Robin has no vacation time. These things always sounded fun before, when I wasn't a journaller (and last year it was in Austin). But this year it mostly sounds like a bunch of weirdos who enjoy acquiring hangovers that last several days. On the other hand, I've never been to San Diego, and it looks fun. And who knows which people I would actually end up hanging with?

Some people get all nervous about looking like idiots in front of their favorite journallors, but only one of my favorite journallors is planning to go so far, and he knows lots of people, so I have no expectations there.

One thing that's bothering me is this sense of cliquishness. It reminds me of (high school and) ultimate frisbee league where everyone claims that they are not serious and that everyone is welcome, and they really try to be open-minded, but they are no good at it. They especially welcome people who turn out to be good at ultimate. On the other hand, who cares. I know how to make my own fun, and if things get too eye-rolly, I can just, uh, surf the internet of course.

I might like to do the thing I usually do for weekend conferences and take a week of vacation, stay mostly in cheap hotels or campsites, and take a lot of day trips to all the touristy places, taking lots of pictures and writing long journal entries. Only this time I'd stay in the official hotel during the conference, perhaps with random roommates.

I'm also trying to generate more ideas for my next party, the theme of which will be "Answers to life, the universe, and everything." I've thought of some answers, but not enough to fill out a whole party: Forty-two (me). Chocolate of some kind(s). New-fangled flapperless toilet. Good start, but standing around watching a toilet flush, even with chocolate in your mouth, well, it could use some work. Must think of more activities. Back rubs? Silly hats? Balloon volleyball? No pressure, but they have to qualify as answers to life, the universe, and everything.

And Robin and I have to decide which of our two Netflix movies to view this evening. I think I'll go do that now.
