Apparently I never explained that I got an e-mail explaining that I didn't get the last job I applied for. I also totally forgot to call to make sure they got all my materials, too. Bad Debbie.

Today I got a new job duty which is actually an old job duty for which I threw away all my documentation after going several years without having to do it. An old job duty I'm not particularly wild about.

In totally related news, I looked for jobs outside the UT System today. I found one for an Educational Specialist, Mathematics Curriculum at the Region XIII Education Service Center. Texas has service centers for each of many regions which help K-12 teachers do a better job in various ways.

The job involves helping to do staff development for teachers in math including keeping them updated on legal and policy developments, helping create online curriculum, and various secretarial/receptionist sounding things.

All I have to do to get qualified for this job is attain knowledge of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (for math, I assume); attain skills in integrating and aligning these TEKS with technology and the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (which I vaguely recall is going to be phased out--I guess I better find out about that, too); acquire skills in integrating technology into instruction; and gain current knowledge of curriculum trends, instruction, technology, assessment, and school systems. I should also learn more about the CSCOPE Curriculum. And by "more," I mean "some."

I have all the "education" required: Bachelor's degree (master's preferred), Texas teacher certification, and mathematics certification.

For some reason, this position doesn't require classroom teaching experience. Woo hoo! I quit looking here after several years (a decade ago) because everything required classroom experience. But today I found a secretary opening here on austin360 and decided to check it out along with other openings. Who knew?

(This is why you're supposed to have professional contacts and stuff. I totally don't have any. Everytime I tell anyone at work what kinds of jobs I'm looking for, that ends the conversation. Even with people whose job it is to help students figure out what they want to do with their lives. My goal of absolutely no interest whatsoever. I had yet another person turn her head and talk to the person on the other side of her after hearing my answer to her question today.)

This position uses the same retirement plan as my current one, pays at least $8,000 more per year than my current job, and is only 2.2 miles away on an easy bike route. Worth looking into, eh?
