Going to Milwaukee

livingdebWell, it's official. We're going to Milwaukee. There's a big family reunion there. I didn't even know my family had reunions until last year. It was mostly people I didn't know, so I didn't go, but my parents did and they liked it. Also two of my uncles are going this year, so there will be other people there who I know.
And now you get to learn what I know about Milwaukee. It won't take long. It's in one of those cold, midwestern states and they make beer and have a lot of bars and churches. I told you it would be quick.
The state it's in is Wisconsin, and it's on the western shore of Lake Michigan, not all that far north of Chicago and not all that far east of Madison.
I found a tour book, but it's likely that we'll spend all our time at the home of the host or at the hotel. Still, just in case some group wants to have an outing, it won't hurt to have a couple of ideas up my sleeve.
I'm not in the mood for another week-long vacation, so even though Milwaukee is just as far as Vermont (i.e., one plane ride), I'm just doing the long weekend thing like everybody else. The reason I'm not in the mood is probably that Milwaukee doesn't sound as exotic as small towns in Vermont. I've actually been to Chicago and Madison. (And I have no interest in beer or church.)
Mostly it will probably be nice to be out of Austin during the weekend of August 18, don't you think? Indigo Rose, I will not be at the gym that day, even though according to your calendar you will be making a rare appearance.
You know, it's not that easy to plan a trip with lots of other people, trying to keep everyone's needs and wishes in mind. The final plan is to wake up before the crack of dawn on a Friday, drive to Dallas, ride with my parents to the airport, and take a low-cost direct flight into Milwaukee. We're all probably staying at a hotel reserved by my uncle in the hotel business for a reasonable rate. We've also got the same flight as my parents on the way back, and then we will drive home late Sunday night. The plane will be small and uncomfortable, like the ones to and from Vermont. When we chose our seats, all the remaining seats on the flight over were coded as "undesirable"! So I guess the trip back will be much better. Ha!
