Awesome or Laid Back?

I went to the library to return a bunch of books and ended up checking out almost just as many. Then I spent several hours reading about Cozumel and Chichén Itzá. Something had led me to believe that you could take a day trip to Chichén Itzá from Cozumel, so I was thinking about whether I preferred a stressful day of trying to fit too much into one day in order to see something really cool (and then, duh, relax on the boat afterwards), or have a laid back day of walking around a town or a park, driving to a rocky beach, shopping, or some combination.

But then I discovered that Chichén Itzá is 100 miles away, which is just too ridiculous. So now my decision is made.

This mediocre entry is brought to you in honor of my blog buddy. I had to write something now, because then I'm going to a wedding and then a different party (the two things we RSVP'd yes to before we learned about the other things we'd also like to be doing) so I may not be home before midnight.

This reminds me of a time I thought I would pop over to Gettysburg from the NJ/Pennsylvania border and then discovered it was on the order of 120 miles away. I had thought all those states up there were small, right, so how far could it be? Turns out Pennsylvania is a wide state.

But that's still shorter than going between any two big cities in Texas (besides Austin and San Antonio). Still, it's easy to exaggerate the differences to oneself.

Plus some of those small states are mountainous, snowy, and/or riddled with animal crossings and whatnot.

Not only is it 100 miles away, but it would require a ferry ride since Cozumel is an island and Chichén Itzá is on the mainland.

Or a plane ride.
