Good-bye Vanguard, Hello Air Conditioner
I finally made a decision about the air conditioner.
I decided company A was better because they did a manual J calculation.
Nevertheless I'm going with company B because I'm feeling poor--I don't really want to blow all my savings for housing repair over the last ten years on just one thing. And I've lived with a two-ton AC the whole time and feel it's been fine. And this company is offering me a unit with the new refrigerant, whereas the other company was offering freon--that really was the main thing that allowed me to choose company B guilt free even though it's probably an inferior system for my house.
I sold off my entire Vanguard holdings. I started with the minimum $3000 in a growth fund. My plan was to expand until I could afford several funds and then keep them balanced with each other. I still like that plan, but right now all my savings that are not in my house or in my retirement funds really should be more liquid. So goodbye for now Vanguard, and hello $5000 to pay for my AC. (Because now is not a good time to sell Whole Foods. The price plummeted when they announced they are expecting only large profits instead of crazy huge profits.)
I also have to scrape together some money to make my charitable contributions for this year because I have been bad and not made any contributions all year. Nor did I make most of the ones I had planned to last year--but those will have to wait again.

Today is the first day I've had any kind of energy since I caught that cold. Not enough energy to go jogging, but I did do some cleaning and cooking and taking care of some annoying things such as those mentioned above. I can't say I gardened, either, but at least I did water the plants that did not get any rain this week because they are under the patio roof or inside.
