I'm having a very nice day today.
I slept in late and had eggs and (vegetarian sausage) for breakfast. Then we walked over to Target, which was not a madhouse, though we didn't find anything we were looking for. Of course we did find other things.
I got one of those newsletter things from some old friends. It came with pictures of their kids, who I probably haven't seen in four years. Things change a lot in four years! And even with kids, my friends are traveling all over the place. It was great fun, and I wrote them back.
(I know I'm not supposed to like those holiday newsletters because supposedly they are nothing but bragging, but I do like to know cool things that are happening to people. My favorite was when one person made it look like a newsletter rather than a letter, with pictures of her in her band and everything! I keep telling myself I should write these, since I enjoy getting them so much, but then I can't come up with anything that I can't imaging the naysayers slashing to bits. Maybe next year.)
I've also been exchanging e-mails with someone I met online, which has been fun. And someone I met at a friend's parties, also fun. And someone I met through Nanowrimo, because I stupidly left a container at the party and she keeps trying to return it to me!
And I made some cornbread. Yes, I didn't just decide I needed to try some cornbread recipes, I have actually done it. It turned out fabulously nonsweet and tasted, surprisingly, a lot like corn. Unfortunately, it was also too bland for my tastes. I may have to add cheddar cheese after all. When I get a good recipe, I'll let you know.
And I saw the movie "11:14" recommended to me by my boss. It sounded great because it's about how a bunch of people's lives intersect, specifically at and before 11:14 one evening. It has a tight plot, and you don't get the whole picture until you see what everyone's doing. I enjoy it when a plot is revealed in a masterly way as it is here.
Unfortunately, I'm never watching it again. There's too much self-centeredness, stupidity, and horrible violence. It's hard to even like most of the characters. I do like Hilary Swank's character, but I think that's it. Why can't there be an exciting movie about, say, escaping the nunnery or finding the perfect cornbread recipe? No, it (almost) always has to be about maiming and death.
And I'm trying out the tags feature of LiveJournal. Yes, I'm a little slow sometimes. It's hard to decide on categories.
And did I mention we are to have amazing weather all weekend? Or at least amazing temperatures, with highs at or near 70 degrees. We did have very gusty winds today. So sad for that neighbor of mine who was trying to rake.
