Snow Day

Thursday night it snowed. It snows in Austin far less than once a year, so it's a pretty big deal to us. So big that my employer closed down for the entire day. I really wasn't expecting that because lately they've learned they can delay opening for just a few hours or until noon. However temperatures were forecasted to stay below freezing until 3:00 pm.

What a rip-off! The snow was totally melting already when I went out for a little walk at 10:45 am in my hiking boots with the good tread. (First I checked which of my sneakers had better tread. Uh, neither.) Here's what my next-door neighbor's yard looked like.

This is the snowiest spot I could find.

There was still some snow on the trail in the old airport. I could see tracks of people, bicycles, and dogs.

I like the way the melting water makes little rivers in this tiny geographical feature just like it does on a much larger scale.

I'm not sure I've ever seen that effect before, but this day I saw it twice.

I like this tree and its shadow.

Sorry, my Boston friends, it's so not fair. I didn't have to shovel or go to work. In case it helps, I did scrape all my car windows the night before when I insisted on going shopping after dance class even though there was a little freezing rain. The store is right next to class. Gas saving!
