Cayamo Cruise: Day 7

Day 7 was our last full day at sea. We went to yet another lecture. We ended our suspense about Joe Purdy. We also ended my suspense about "Loud and Rich." We knew it was a fun name for Loudon Wainwright III and Richard Thompson, but I couldn't imagine what the latter could possibly see in the former. Then some new faces: Antje Duvekot and Sarah Buxton. Cayamo Cruise: The Recap

Day 8 of the cruise was kind of boring, just breakfast and disembarkation. Then a taxi. Then too much excitement at the airport. Let me just say that I learned that sometimes, apparently when just a few extra people are getting on at that stop, they do not call your flight. We kept watching the signs saying that the flight was getting later and later, and then it was gone. But then there was some mechanical problem, so it came back. Then a few people got off in disgust, hoping to find something to get them to their next stop more quickly. Then, through no help of the staff at all, we got two of those seats. It was a fellow passenger who told us that he was sure they wouldn't be coming back.

One thing I like about cruises is all the food you want at pretty much any time of the day with no cooking and no cleaning. Speaking of cleaning, it's nice to have the free vacuuming and bathroom cleaning every day, too. And I sure liked all the nice music on the boat, but I have Robin programming loads of nice music at home.

So, I learned a few more things about what musicians I like.

Chuck Cannon - I had never heard of Chuck Cannon or Shawn Mullins before, and I think I like Chuck Cannon the best:

New Realizations

Buddy Miller - I knew I liked three of his songs a lot, but listening to him play with various other people, I learned that I like his songs in general, so I should pay more attention.

John Prine - Again, I hear plenty of John Prine songs at home, but never connected them all to the same guy. New favorites:

* "Your Flag Decal Won't Get You into Heaven Anymore"

John Hiatt - Who knew the same guy played all these songs?
* "Tennessee Plates"
* "Perfectly Good Guitar"
* "Drive South"
Plus he's great on Lyle Lovett's "One-Eyed Fiona."

Joe Purdy - hard to tell just yet. A lot of his songs are about criminals, not my favorite. But they are interesting to listen to.

Here's Cayamo's video recap, with nice picture quality and you get to hear The Civil Wars playing throughout. You get to hear actual musicians--talking. (Mostly answering obviously stupid questions.) Oh, well. And you also get to see some of them performing, but with The Civil Wars song coming out instead.

The Future

We're not going to turn into those people who go back every year. We might do it again sometime, though. However, we should definitely every year check out their line-up of musicians, because we can profit from their good taste in musicians.
